Javoen Byrd is a Seattle, Washington native who has dedicated his life to promoting education and healing through drum facilitation. He has spent over 10 years traveling through West Africa, specifically Nigeria, studying African centered methodology for connecting and healing utilizing rhythm. He holds a Masters in Ethnomusicology from the University of Washington and has provided programming in several Universities and State agencies such as The Evergreen State College, SPSCC, The Department of Children and Family Services. Awodi Drumming also offers various packages to the private sector assisting employers in reaching their productivity goals. 

 

Currently Awodi Drumming is working with State Agency DCYF to develop an Evidence based practice utilizing African music pedagogy for rehabilitation for the States Juvenile Detention Centers.
